How to Prepare for a Junk Removal Appointment
You've booked your junk removal appointment — great! Now what? A little preparation goes a long way toward making the process faster, smoother, and potentially cheaper. Here's what we recommend before our crew arrives.
1. Walk Through and Decide What Goes
Before we show up, take a walk through your home and clearly identify everything you want removed. If there are items you're on the fence about, make your decisions now — not while the crew is standing there with the clock running. A good rule of thumb: if you haven't used it in a year and it doesn't have sentimental value, it's time to let it go.
2. Separate Items You Want to Keep
Move anything you want to keep to a clearly separate area. We've seen it happen — in the hustle of loading, something gets grabbed that wasn't supposed to go. Put "keep" items in a different room or mark them clearly. A simple sticky note works great.
3. Clear a Path
Our crew needs to get from your junk to the truck. Make sure hallways, doorways, and driveways are clear. If items are in the basement, make sure the stairway is navigable. This helps us work faster, which saves you money since we charge by volume, not time.
4. Consolidate Small Items
Loose items like old magazines, kitchen gadgets, toys, and knick-knacks take longer to carry one at a time. Box them up or bag them beforehand. Garbage bags work great for this — just make sure they're not too heavy to lift.
5. Point Out Heavy or Awkward Items
Got a piano in the basement? A cast-iron tub on the second floor? A hot tub in the backyard? Let us know when you book so we can bring the right crew size and equipment. Surprises on arrival can cause delays.
6. Disconnect Appliances
If you're having appliances removed, disconnect them from water lines, gas lines, and electrical outlets before we arrive. We can't disconnect gas lines for safety reasons. If an appliance is still connected, we may need to reschedule that item.
